Nina Savinova Chairwoman

The Estonian Belorusian Association, founded in March in 1996, represents the interests of the Belorusian minority in Estonia within FUEN. The main activities of the association are the preservation and promotion of the national culture of Belarus, attraction of young people to national traditions, integration of foreign Belarusians into the European Community and Organisation of events in Europe. The Association is a member of FUEN since 2004.

In the 2001 census, 16,891 Belarusians were counted in Estonia, which is 1.2 per cent of the total population. Overall, almost one third of the Estonian population belongs to a national minority. Most Belarusians came to the Estonian Soviet Republic as labour migrants. Therefore, they settled mainly in the urban area of Tallinn or in the district of Ida-Viru. Many Belarusians state Russian as their mother tongue. There are local associations and a Belarusian cultural centre with Sunday school in Tallinn.
