German Community in Klaipėda

The headquarters of the Association of Germans in Klaipėda is located in the Simon-Dach-Haus in Klaipėda. The association currently has around 180 members.

The aim of the association is to cultivate and popularise the German language, history and the German and East Prussian cultural heritage. In order to preserve German culture, customs and language and to promote cultural and artistic values, the association organises various cultural events, such as folk evenings and meetings with cultural workers, discussion groups and readings about culture and history that reflect the links between Klaipėda and Germany.

There is a German library in the Simon-Dach-House, rehearsals and concerts of the association choir take place here, the youth group meets here and German courses are offered for members. The association also looks after German cemeteries, places of worship and architectural monuments.

By participating in the activities of the ethnic minorities of the city of Klaipėda (Centre for Ethnic Minority Cultures) and the country (Department for Ethnic Minorities of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania), the association works to raise the profile of Germans in Lithuania at both local and national level and provides valuable networking opportunities through cooperation with other organisations.

The Association of Germans in Klaipėda is a member of FUEN since 2024.
