The Bretons also support Minority Citizens Initiative

"If the representatives of two national minorities come across anywhere in Europe, in a few minutes they can identify each other’s problems and begin to look together for the means to solve them. The Minority European Citizen’s Initiative created a common problem solving instrument, the platform for European minority solidarity. The Breton minority in France should play an important role in this project", stated Loránt Vincze in Ploemeur, Brittany. 

The international secretary of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania, on behalf of the founding partners of the minority ECI, presented during the general assembly of the Breton Cultural Institute, the new European legal instruments, the minority solidarity partnership and the Minority SafePack.

Patrick Malrieu, president of the Breton Cultural Institute, which embraces the most important organisations, representing the 4 million people Breton community from Brittany, stated that they supported the idea of the initiative from the beginning; their delegate was present at the foregoing meetings regarding the Minority ECI. 

"The European route 60 is a symbolic trace. It runs across Romania, Transylvania, and the whole Europe and at last reaches Brest on the land of the Bretons. Unfortunately it links our common problems too, since Brittany was divided in two in the middle of the 20th century, and the French state, among other anti-minority measures, kept the artificially created regions. The new French government would like to weaken even more the Breton community, by planning to merge the two Breton regions, into one large North-Western region. A similar situation might befall in Romania, a large region, endowed with administrative powers would dissolve the Hungarian counties from Szeklerland. Such a measure would mark the region and its inhabitants for the upcoming decades. We would like to prevent with every possible means this unfavourable decision", Loránt Vincze emphasized during his presentation.

The international secretary of DAHR presented the stage of preparations for the Minority SafePack, and on behalf of the founding partners – FUEN, the European umbrella organisation of the autochthonous, national minorities, the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (DAHR) and the South-Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) – asked the Breton parties and organisations to join the initiative.

The delegates ensured their support for the ECI and expressed their confidence that the members of the Breton community will support the petition with their signatures.
