Theater meeting in Bruneck marks the start for a new project
24.06.2016Several minority theatres in Europe agreed during the EUROPEADA – the European football championship for the autochthonous national minorities - to develop a new project together. The German-Sorbian People’s Theatre (Bautzen, Germany), the City Theatre of Bruneck (Italy); Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru (Wales/Great Britain), the AGORA-theatre of the German-speaking Community in Belgium and the Teatr Zydowski (Poland) agreed after a workshop in Bruneck vereinbart, to start the project "VȎX / to give minority languages a voice" (working title).
The project aims at developing contemporary drama, dealing with the quest for identity of the national minorities in Europe. As a consequence this would make contribution to the strengthening of minority languages. The project has the objective of involving young people in particular and to keep the cultural heritage alive.
FUEN supports this initiative. Already at the EUROPEADA 2012 in Lusatia (Germany) the networking between European theatres was part of the programme, which promoted the cooperation between the theatres. At the press conference, FUEN Secretary General Susann Schenk explained the role of FUEN: “Creating networks of minorities in different areas of activity is our strength. We are very pleased that four years after the previous meeting we have once again succeeded in bringing the theatres together, and that this had led to a concrete idea for new drama.”
