The conclusion of the FUEN Congress is the beginning of the citizen’s initiative petition campaign
21.05.2017This year's Congress of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), organised in Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár/Klausenburg, Romania, has ended. Over 300 delegates and guests attended the four-day event of the largest minority umbrella organisation in Europe. The petition campaign for the Minority SafePack Initiative has officially been launched during the congress.
"The congress was a success in every respect” – affirmed the President of FUEN, Loránt Vincze. "Prestigious guests graced us with their presence. European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth & Sport Tibor Navracsics, and President of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities Prof Petra Roter spoke about good practices regarding the language rights, autonomy and innovation in minority communities. Speakers also drew the attention of the participants to the infringements upon minority rights in Central and Eastern Europe.” – stated the FUEN President.
"The petition campaign for the Minority SafePack Initiative was launched during a memorable festive event organised at the Bánffy castle in Bonșida/Bonchida, Romania. Minorities in Europe need to show unprecedented solidarity if we are to accomplish gathering the necessary 1 million signatures needed for the initiative. We need to have more partners on our side to make sure a legislative framework will be drafted for the protection of minority rights in Europe. We are proud of the fact that the work has begun here in Transylvania” – stated Loránt Vincze after the launch of the petition campaign.
