Minority SafePack: we have got the validated signatures; we need to secure the support of the majority
25.07.2018It’s official: the Minority SafePack is a successful European Citizen’s Initiative. National authorities in 27 Member States have verified the signed statements of support and validated 1,121,090 of them. The final number will be tallied as soon as the French authorities will announce the number of signatures they validated. Aside from thusly securing the one million statements of support needed, we have managed to pass the national threshold in eleven states instead of the necessary seven – stated FUEN President Loránt Vincze on Wednesday at a summer university in Transylvania.
Loránt Vincze added: autochthonous national minorities are part of Europe’s cultural heritage, and our continent is truly diverse because of these communities. Thus, we need to have the proper tools to protect their linguistic and cultural identities.
In the upcoming period, the FUEN President stated, the focus of the organisation will be on a successful lobbying activity in the European Parliament, the European Commission, and most importantly within national parliaments and governments in order to present the ideas enclosed in the Minority SafePack Initiative and in order to secure the support of the majority communities.
