FUEN helps promoting bilingualism in Wallonia
01.04.2019Stickers and postcards made for the language diversity project "It´s never too late... monolingualism is easy to cure" were distributed by FUEN at the board meeting of the Association for the Promotion of the German Language in Wallonia / Verbandes zur Förderung der deutschen Sprache in der Wallonie/Association pour la promotion de la langue allemande en Wallonie. The 200 stickers and 200 postcars in German language were sent to the organization at the request of Prof. Manfred Peters in order to promote bilingualism in the region.
Wallonia is the largest region of Belgium, a primarily French-speaking region, but also home of the German-speaking minority. The German-speaking minority in eastern Wallonia results from WWI and the subsequent annexation of three cantons that were initially part of the former German empire. This community represents less than 1% of the Belgian population. The German-speaking Community of Belgium has its own government and parliament for culture-related issues.
