Jens Nymand Christensen, Director of the European Commission responsible for cooperation with the European institutions, stepped into the lion’s den on Thursday 10 October 2013. He agreed to explain, in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the reasons of the Commission why the Citizens’ Initiative “Minority SafePack Initiative” cannot start collecting signatures.
The FUEN president had the honour of giving the “dinner speech” to the German delegation at the Committee of the Regions and used this opportunity to explain his dissatisfaction with the rejection of the Citizens’ Initiative “Minority SafePack Initiative” by the European Commission.
Circa 60 participants – among them several Members of the European Parliament – accepted the invitation of FUEN President Hans Heinrich Hansen and Iuliu Winkler, Member of the European Parliament on behalf of RMDSZ/EPP. Together they discussed in Brussels about the rejection of the citizens’ initiative “Minority SafePack Initiative” by the European Commission.
Twelve of the representatives who were elected at the FUEN Assembly of Delegates in Brixen in June had a meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels on 25 September 2013.
At the European Day of Languages, in the European Parliament in Brussels, the “Language Diversity Team” engaged in an action to raise more awareness for the importance of linguistic diversity in general and for the particular importance of the smaller and smallest languages.
