Total commitment on the part of the minorities at the beginning of the year in Berlin
03.02.2016Last week, FUEN and its member organisations had several meetings in Berlin. The main topic for discussion there was the support to the minorities given by the Federal Republic of Germany and the coordination of the activities that Germany undertakes in those countries where German minorities are living. Furthermore, there were several planning sessions between FUEN and the German minorities vis-à-vis the Federal Republic of Germany.
On the invitation of the Federal Government Commissioner for Matters Related to Ethnic German Resettlers and national minorities, Hartmut Koschyk MP, and Minister of State Prof Dr Maria Böhmer MP, representatives of the German minorities in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Russia participated in a technical meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other participants in this discusssion were the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Goethe Institute, the ifa-Institute for Foreign Relations and the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad. It was the first meeting between intermediary organisations, representatives from the German minorities and Members of the German Federal Parliament with the aim of coordinating the programme of measures, which are supplementing one other.
There was another exchange of information about the interests of the German minorities and FUEN during the visit to Berlin, with Federal Commissioner Hartmut Koschyk and with the specialised departments of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Over the days the representatives of the German minorities successfully concluded their planning sessions for 2016 and also the programmes for the Working Group of German Minorities in FUEN and for FUEN as a whole were further specified for the upcoming months.
After three intense days the FUEN and the German minorities can now actively pursue their successful work and their annual programme of activities.
