FUEN is preparing for elections
01.03.2016The upcoming FUEN Congress of 2016 in Wrocław/Breslau will also be an Assembly of Delegates where elections take place.
After 9 years in office, Hans Heinrich Hansen will end his work a President of FUEN. Since 2007 Hansen, who is a German from Nordschleswig, Denmark, led the organisation representing the interests of the minorities. Before he had been active as vice-president.
“I look forward to hand over FUEN as a stable and recognised representative organisation in Europe, and foremost as a community of solidarity, to my successor and to a strong presidium. I am glad that there are lots of inquiries about the top positions in FUEN. It demonstrates the strong interest and also the feeling of responsibility of our members to continue with our European efforts.”
At the Election Assembly of Delegates on 21 May 2016, which was announced already in July last year, ordinary members have the chance to nominate candidates for the following offices: President, 6 Vice Presidents, the Members of the European Dialogue Forum and the Auditors.
Furthermore there will be discussions about amendments to the statutes, which will introduce a statutory arrangement for the Working Groups inside FUEN. The FUEN Assembly of Delegates, which will be at the end of the Congress, will also discuss about resolutions and motions submitted by the Member Organisations.
The FUEN Congress will be dedicated to issues related to how we will live together in Europe in the future: between peace policy and conflict management, but also with the preservation of minority languages and –cultures and the cooperation between the minorities. The Congress will take place in Breslau/Wrocław, on the invitation of the German minority in Poland.
The Congress in the Capital of Culture will use the atmosphere of the EU Capital of Culture for the largest gathering of people belonging to the European autochthonous minorities.
