FUEN President Vincze Loránt presented the Minority SafePack Initiative to European youth leaders
03.10.2017”While we salute the fact that the European Union often takes a stance in the interest of protecting minorities living outside its borders, we believe it would be more credible when doing so if it would do more for guaranteeing the rights of autochthonous national minorities living within Europe” – stated FUEN President Vincze Loránt on Friday, during an event organised in Transylvanian city Kolozsvár, Cluj-Napoca by the largest youth organisation on the continent. At the Council Meeting of the European People’s Party’s student organisation, the European Democrat Students (EDS) the president of the Federal Union of European Nationalities talked about the situation of minorities in Europe, bringing examples ranging from the situation of unrecognised minorities to the great examples and best practices when minorities enjoy self-governance in their native countries.
Vincze Loránt presented the Minority SafePack Citizen’s Initiative to youth leaders arriving from every corner of the continent, and many of them immediately signed the petition for the initiative.
One million signatures need to be gathered in order for the European Citizen’s Initiative to succeed. Apart from its vast network of member organisations the FUEN will rely on aid from its partners in this endeavour. Thus, Vincze Loránt asked the leaders of the EDS to support and promote the cause of the Minority SafePack in their home regions.
