New FUEN Report: Empowering Minority Women in Europe
26.05.2025FUEN has published a new report entitled “Empowering Minority Women in Europe”. The report is based on the outcomes of the 2024 conference held in Athens, Greece, as part of FUEN’s “Women of Minorities” project (read more about the conference HERE).
The report sheds light on the complex, intersectional challenges faced by women from minority communities in Europe – ranging from underrepresentation and gender-based violence to barriers in education, healthcare and employment. Drawing on the lived experiences of the affected women and expert insights, it presents practical solutions and concrete policy recommendations aimed at promoting equality, participation and empowerment.
Among its key demands are targeted support measures for education and employment, improved access to culturally sensitive healthcare and the introduction of quotas to ensure political representation. As the report states, the time has come “to move from words to action, from symbolic gestures to systemic change.”
The report can be downloaded as a PDF HERE.
In November 2023, representatives of ten FUEN member organisations gathered in Vienna (Austria) for the first meeting held within the framework of the “Women of Minorities” project. The outcome of this meeting was the document “Towards the Development of FUEN Equality Standards for the Network and the FUEN Member Organisations”, which outlines key equality principles as well as concrete mechanisms to strengthen the role of women within FUEN and its member organisations – ranging from awareness-raising and empowerment to structural measures such as quotas, networks and monitoring.
The document can be read as a PDF HERE.
