FUEN met Sylvia Lehmann, member of the German Bundestag
29.05.2020On Tuesday, 26 May 2020, FUEN General Secretary Eva Pénzes, FUEN Legal Advisor Roman Roblek and the coordinator of the FUEN Working Group Education Bérengère Vogel met with the Member of the German Parliament Sylvia Lehmann for a first meeting and discussion. Ms. Sylvia Lehmann is a member of the SPD parliamentary group and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2019. She is also a member of the Committee on the Interior and Home Affairs of the German Bundestag.
In a constructive and friendly conversation Mrs. Pénzes presented the diverse activities of the FUEN. A central point of the presentation was the explanation of the status of the Minority SafePack European Citizens' Initiative (MSPI), which demands the anchoring of the protection of national minorities in EU law. Furthermore the aims and activities of the WG Education were discussed in detail.
For Ms. Lehmann, the implementation of the MSPI and the improvement of minority protection at EU level are an important concern. In addition, she revealed to us that she herself comes from a municipality in Brandenburg belonging to the Sorbian settlement area and that she is very familiar with the culture and traditions of the Sorbian community.
We are looking forward to further cooperation and a lively exchange with Sylvia Lehmann!
