FUEN TAG Spokesperson paid a working visit to North Macedonia

The Spokesperson of the Working Group of Turkic Minorities and Communities (TAG) in the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), Halit Habip Oğlu, paid a working visit to North Macedonia on 21 August 2025.

During his working visit, Habip Oğlu, accompanied by Melek Kırmacı from the FUEN TAG Secretariat, held meetings with the representatives of the Turks living in North Macedonia in the capital Skopje. The FUEN TAG delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Skopje, Fatih Ulusoy.

In Skopje, Habip Oğlu met with Dr. Beycan İlyas, Member of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zülfikar Zeynulah, President of the Turkish Democratic Party (TDP), Erdoğan Saraç, President of the Turkish National Unity Movement (TMBH), and Tahsin İbrahim, Chairman of the Union of Turkish Civil Society Organizations in Macedonia (MATÜSİTEB), and visited the KÖPRÜ Education and Culture Association.     

                  

During the meeting, Habip Oğlu introduced the FUEN and the TAG, and noted that the FUEN is the largest umbrella organization of the autochthonous national minorities, nationalities and language groups in Europe, which unites 118 member organizations from 38 European countries under its umbrella. Habip Oğlu provided information about the work and activities of TAG which was established in 2013 within the FUEN and said that the TAG brings together Turkish minorities and communities living in a large geographical area from the Balkans to the Caucasus.

Habip Oğlu introduced the Turkish minorities and communities that are members of the FUEN and stated that the Turkish organizations come together at the annual meetings of TAG, adding that the 11th annual meeting in 2025 was hosted by the Bulgarian Turks in Varna.

During the meetings, the FUEN TAG delegation learned about the history, organizational structure, current situation and problems of the Turks in North Macedonia, who are one of the state-forming peoples of the country, as well as the activities of the Turkish non-governmental organizations and associations there.
