10th anniversary of the European Minority Film Festival organised by the North Frisians in Husum, Germany
18.11.2016From 23 until 26 November the sixth edition of the European Minority Film Festival will take place in Husum, Germany. Already for a period of 10 years our North Frisian member organisation “Friisk Foriining”, in cooperation with the Cinema Centre Husum, plays movies based on the motto “Great Films of Small Nations”, made in the languages of European peoples, who cannot rely on a cultural motherland.
This year the original languages of the films are Welsh, Catalan, Basque and West-Frisian. Of course subtitles have been added to all these films.
At the opening of the festival on Monday 23 November at 19:00 hr, like at the other evenings, first a short film will be shown out of competition. The selection of this short film took place in collaboration with the “Babel Film Festival” in Sardinia, which entered into cooperation with the European Minority Film Festival.
Afterwards at 20:30 hr the festival starts with the Welsh production “Dan Y Wenallt” (Under Milk Wood) from director and winner of the European Minority Film Awards 2014 Kevin AIIen as first official contestant at the festival. Divided over four evenings aways both short films as well as full-length productions are shown, among these also the Basque success film Loreak (Flowers), which is Spain’s contribution for the 88th Academy Awards as Best Foreign Language Film.
For almost all films the audience will have the chance to ask questions to the actors, producers or directors, before and after the screenings. An international jury will decide at the end, who will win the EUROPEAN MINORITY FILM AWARD 2016. There will also be an audience award.
The festival will conclude on Saturday at 20:30 hr with a grand gala at Husumhus, Neustadt 95, where the ceremony for the film award will take place. The European Minority Award 2016 will be presented by the Minister for Justice, Culture and Europe of the Land of Schleswig-Holstein, Anke Spoorendonk.
