Turkic minorities and communities are gathering in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia

What is the culture and daily life of the Turks in North Macedonia like? What are their issues and what challenges do they face? How are they represented in the political and social life of the country in which they live? You can find the answers to these and other questions at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Turkic Minorities and Communities in FUEN (TAG), which will be hosted by the Turks of North Macedonia in Skopje from 15 to 18 October 2026.

Organised in collaboration with the local branch of the Democratic Party of Turks of Macedonia (TDP), the political party of the Turks of North Macedonia, the meeting will bring together Turkic minorities and communities from nine different European countries.

The meeting programme includes presentations and cultural performances showcasing the culture, traditions and customs of the Turks of North Macedonia, as well as their political and social representation; a guided tour of Skopje; a reception for the FUEN TAG delegation at the Prime Minister’s Office and the National Assembly; and visits to and discussions with the institutions and organisations of the Turks of North Macedonia.

At the roundtable meeting to be held on Saturday 17 October, participants will have the opportunity to share key developments over the past year concerning the Turkic minorities and communities to which they belong, as well as the activities of the organisations they represent; FUEN TAG’s 2026–2027 activity plan and roadmap will also be discussed.

FUEN TAG

Established in 2013 under the umbrella of FUEN, TAG currently comprises 12 member organisations representing Turkic minorities and communities across a broad geographical area stretching from the Caucasus to the Balkans. With its secretariat run by the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), based in Germany, FUEN TAG held its first annual meeting in Ankara in 2014.
