FUEN President: Extradition of Carles Puigdemont would not solve the institutional crisis in Catalonia
26.03.2018The FUEN urges for political dialogue between Madrid and Barcelona. Criminal prosecution will not solve the institutional crisis, it will only put more gas on the fire. Germany should act in the European interest and avoid action that leads to further confrontation and should not extradite the former Catalan President – states FUEN President Loránt Vincze.
In the FUEN opinion the Catalan crisis is not an exclusively Spanish internal issue, it never was. After Spain, it was Belgium and now Germany, via Switzerland, Finland, Denmark that were also involved in this matter.
“Europe should be ready to give answers in such delicate matters. We said from the very beginning that Europe should offer mediation in the Catalan crisis between Barcelona and Madrid. Brussels should try to get parties at the table not only when economic or financial issues are at stake or when international crisis take place in other parts of the world, but also on a European crisis. The Catalan crisis is not a Spanish internal one, it became a European one. It is time that Brussels acts in this direction, maybe some orientation from Berlin would help” – stated the FUEN President.
