Congratulations Renate! Renate Schnack, the Minority Commission of Schleswig-Holstein, receives prize
03.05.2016For the first time the Danish Cultural Association Grænseforeningen (transl.: border association) gave its prize for outstanding achievements in the area of culture and of living together harmoniously in the Danish-German border region to a woman from the majority population south of the border.
The Minority Commissioner to the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein received the prize in the Danish hamlet of Vingsted on 30 April 2016.
Hans Heinrich Hansen: “This prize honours a woman who has been passionately committed to the needs of the German-Danish border regions. The fact that Grænseforeningen, which was established as a national Danish association in 1920, gives this prize to the Schleswig-Holstein Minority Commissioner is something unique seen from a European perspective.“
Renate Schnack always makes the connection between the German-Danish border region and the European perspective. In October 2014 she officially opened the Office of the House of Minorities in Flensburg, together with FUEN and its partners.
In the House of Minorities a European Centre of Information and Documentation will be developed, which will benefit the minorities in Europe and will build upon the experiences of the German-Danish border region.
The prize is 15,000 Danish Kroner (about 2,000 Euro). We are very pleased that Renate Schnack will donate the prize to a youth project which is to take place in the House of Minorities.
