Biike as a symbol of integration and coexistence
23.02.2016The 12th Biike Reception of the Frisian Council Section North took place in the "Altes Heizwerk“ in Bredstedt/Bräist immediately before the Biikebrennen (bonfires).
FUEN President Hans Heinrich Hansen and FUEN Secretary-General Susann Schenk participated in the Biike Reception.
In front of more than 160 guests Ilse Johanna Christiansen described the Biike as a force for integration. The programme offered a lot of variety, mainly focusing on the new and old myths and the creation of myths.
"A very successful reception, in an own special Frisian way. Knowledge, know-how and passing them on – with this in mind it was not only about the active commitment of the Frisians but repeatedly raises the question concerning the Myths of the Frisians in North Frisia", says Hans Heinrich Hansen.
The Biikebrennen bonfires take place in North Frisia to a large extent in more than 60 places. Biikebrennen has been included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014.
