FUEN takes leave of Ottó Heinek
20.08.2018With deep sorrow, the Federal Union of European Nationalities learned this morning of the passing of Ottó Heinek, Chairman of the Self-government of the Germans in Hungary (LdU).
Ottó Heinek was born on 2 February 1960 in Mohacs. In addition to his work as a journalist, he has been Chairman of the LdU since 1999. For more than 20 years Ottó Heinek actively accompanied the work of FUEN, was Co-founder of the Working Group of German minorities in FUEN and contributed significantly to the success of the Working Group with his untiring commitment.
Loránt Vincze, President of FUEN, expressed his condolences with the following words: "With the death of Ottó Heinek I have lost not only a wonderful colleague, but also a friend who, as a leading figure of a Central European minority, could always immerse himself in the situation of weak communities. Together we looked for solutions and ways for the cooperation of European minorities within FUEN. His passing leaves deep traces in FUEN, because with Ottó Heinek we have lost an important personality in the protection of minorities. He will be deeply missed."
FUEN expresses its sincere condolences to the family of Ottó Heinek and to the local Self-government of the Germans in Hungary.
