Foundation for Fortified Churches visits FUEN
10.02.2016The manager of the Foundation Kirchenburgen (fortified churches) of the Protestant Church in Romania founded in the autumn of 2015, Mr Philipp Harfmann, visited FUEN for an exchange of ideas. Together with FUEN Secretary General Susann Schenk, the topic of European networking in the field of cultural heritage was discussed.
The preservation of material and immaterial heritage plays an increasingly important role among many minorities. FUEN supports the exchange of this type of initiatives.
The Democratic Forum of the Germans in Romania and its chairman Dr Paul Jürgen Porr is member of the board of trustees of the Foundation.
Transylvania is famous because it has more than 160 fortified churches. The history of these churches goes back to the Middle Ages. Seven exemplary fortified churches are part of the UNESCO World Heritage, because of their outstanding universal importance. The German-Romanian Foundation Kirchenburgen is under the joint patronage of the German Federal President Joachim Gauck and the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.
