FUEN Presidium presents priorities for autochthonous minorities at Bundestag Parliamentary Breakfast

The new FUEN Presidium and its priorities were presented to Members of the German Bundestag on Thursday, 23 April 2026. FUEN’s delegation held a highly productive Parliamentary Breakfast at the Paul-Löbe-Haus in Berlin, hosted by MP Knut Abraham. During the event, the delegation engaged in vital discussions with cross-party lawmakers under the overarching theme: "Autochthonous minorities in tomorrow’s Europe".

The discussions centered on key priorities focused on securing a resilient future for minority rights across Europe. The FUEN delegation emphasized the urgent need to safeguard human rights standards amid potential changes to the European Convention on Human Rights. To this end, they called for clear political support for the inviolability of the Convention's structures.

Participants also talked about the legacy of the Minority SafePack Initiative (MSPI) as FUEN pushed to transition the initiative from a political signal to concrete political responsibility. In this context, the delegation advocated strongly for the dismantling of geo-blocking to ensure unified audiovisual access and freedom of service reception in minority languages.

Furthermore, the delegation stressed the mandatory involvement of young people in decision-making processes to ensure linguistic and cultural continuity. Addressing the challenges minority organizations face during these times of crisis, FUEN advocated for long-term institutional stability and multi-year funding models, rather than relying solely on short-term project funding.
