Minorities in Western Balkans continues in 2017
10.03.2017Following the successful projects of the Minorities in Western Balkans, the project partners met in Flensburg on 08.03.2017. In the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) the representation of the state chancellery Schleswig-Holstein, Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), ECMI and the Federal Union for European Nationalities (FUEN) discussed the possibilities for continuing the project in 2017. Ideas for concrete projects in the cities were highlighted. These have been developed throughout 2016 with participants from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania.
The projects are financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Schleswig-Holstein.
Six projects were proposed for the implementation in 2017:
1 Train the Trainers (social mediators)
2 Dialog Forum Norden – awareness campaign
3 Save House – support children on the streets
4 Commissioner for Minority Rights (job shadowing, training, study visit)
5 Training on monitoring and evaluation
6 Minority Rights Centre
„The projects show the possible transfer between the regions. The city Tuzla is interested in forming educational and cultural institutions, which mirror the danish concept of ‘højskole’. Therefore FUEN will have a special focus on the collaboration with Tuzla.“ Says Susann Schenk, FUEN Secretary General
The project will be supervised by FUEN in Flensburg. FUENs Matic Germovšek, Carinthian Slovene, will take the project lead.
