Minorities in Slovakia are actively engaged in the Minority SafePack Initiative petition campaign
25.09.2017I salute the decision of minorities in Slovakia to be actively involved in the petition campaign for the Minority SafePack Initiative – stated FUEN President Loránt Vincze in Bratislava.
At the end of a two day visit to southern Slovakia the President of the Federal Union of European Nationalities held a joint press conference with President of The Party of the Hungarian Community (MKP), József Menyhárt, and Vice President of Trnava Region Council, and coordinator of the local petition campaign, József Berényi.
Loránt Vincze and President of the Hungarian cultural society Csemadok, Gyula Bárdos, met with the leaders of the German and Czech minorities in Slovakia, who all joined in the petition campaign also supported by the Rusyns – which they stated at the press conference.
Mr József Berényi talked about the ongoing petition campaign in Slovakia saying the goal is to gather 50 thousand signatures. Loránt Vincze added: “Minorities in Slovakia need to work together in order to achieve this goal, as do the 98 member organisations of the FUEN across Europe. All autochthonous ethnic minorities of Europe stand behind the MSPI.”
On Tuesday the FUEN delegation met with deputy mayor of Komárno, Imre Knirs, and rector of the Selye János University, György Juhász, to discuss the matter of higher education in mother tongue, which is a key issue in preserving the national identity of minorities.
Later that day Mayor Zoltán Hájos of Dunajská Streda met with the delegation and President of the MKP, József Menyhárt, to discuss the advancements made in the city in the field of language rights practices.
Loránt Vincze visited the venue of the petition campaign lead by the MKP in Žitný Ostrov, and talked to people about the importance of the Minority SafePack Initiative.
The petition can be signed online here.
