A visit at the Czechs in Slovakia: the 27th AGSM seminar takes place in Košice

The Czech minority in Slovakia will be the host of the 27th Seminar of Slavic Minorities in Europe between 14-17 November 2024. The event will take place in Košice, where the host organisation, the Czech Association in Slovakia is located, and a day-long visit to Stará Ľubovňa is also part of the programme.

The Seminar will start in the afternoon of 14 November with welcoming and opening remarks and a panel discussion of the minorities living in Košice.

The second day is dedicated to sightseeing, meetings with the host organization and the representatives of the city, followed by the reports of the AGSM member organisations and a discussion on the activities of the working group. The women’s choir of the Czech association will entertain the guests during the evening.

On November 16, the participants will visit the castle and the open-air exhibition in Stará Ľubovňa, and will have a meeting with the town’s representatives.

The Czech minority in Slovakia – česká menšina na Slovensku – came into being when Czechoslovakia was divided into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993. The 37,000 members of this minority are spread throughout the country, and most of them speak both Czech and Slovakian. Their organisation, the Czech Association in Slovakia was founded in 1994 and joined FUEN in 2003.

AGSM member organisations can apply to take part in the seminar until 22 October. Participation is limited to a maximum of two persons from each organisation.
